HISTORY

In 1928, Al Magone was a cigar-chomping gangster with extraordinary organization skills. He was able to get others to do his dirty work for him and was soon ruling a large criminal network. His success was noted by the Guardians of the Universe who dispatched Green Lantern Abin Sur of Ungara to apprehend the mobster.

Magone was left on the Guardians' prison planet, where all the prisoners were separated from each other as they were confined to different time eras. Magone swore to escape, and one day his opportunity arose. He came across a crashed space probe, and believing it might be a trap, Magone started tearing out wires until two wires accidentally touched, causing a unique explosion. The divisions in time separating the inmates vanished.

Brought together under Magone's leadership, the various criminals used their knowledge and skills to devise a weapon, a new form of energy which they used to strike at the Green Lantern Corps.
