HISTORY

Sector 73 Lantern Chthos-Chthas Chthatis hailed from Chthistos in the Chthalonia system. Details are not available about his homeworld, but it is known his race has exceptional eyesight, though poor sense of smell.

After a politician's daughter was kidnapped by one of the Children of the White Lobe, Sector Lantern Chthos-Chthas Chthatis was sent to her rescue. When the Lobe Spawn sought to escape law enforcement by hiding in another enemy of the Corps, Ranx the Sentient City, Chthos was ordered not to proceed without backup. His partner, Sendrina, was involved in a turf war near the Osiris Cluster and could not come to his assistance. Rather than have Chthos-Chthas Chthatis enter Ranx the Sentient City unaided, Lantern administrator Salakk assigned Honor Guard Lantern Guy Gardner to assist.

Chthos-Chthas Chthatis held Gardner in high regard, despite Gardner's sometimes disdainful attitude. Chthos was very knowledgeable and articulate, but perhaps too talkative according to Guy Gardner. Guy also stated Chthos didn't smell very pleasant either.

Ranx tried repeated attacks on the Lanterns. Only when the two lanterns threatened to slowly disconnect Ranx did the city stop its interference. The lanterns were able to locate the kidnapper and the victim. Though caught, the lobe spawn detonated a bomb, preferring death to captivity at the hands of the Green Lantern Corps. The blast literally upset Ranx plumbing and the Lanterns were expelled through the sewer system. Ranx swore revenge on the Corps, and the two lanterns in particular.

Some time later, former Green Lantern Sinestro had gathered forces to create his own Sinestro Corps. Wielding yellow power rings, the Sinestro Corps sought to spread fear across the universe. One battlefront was the sentient planet and Green Lantern Mogo. The Sinestro Corps had inducted Ranx and increased his size and power to match Mogo.

Chthos-Chthas Chthatis was among a contingent of Green Lanterns sent to reinforce Mogo. Ranx' gravity disruptors were being used to dig deep into Mogo so the Children of the White Lobe could explode a blink bomb in his core. When Kilowog ordered a number of Green Lanterns to bring the battle right to Ranx, Chthos-Chthas Chthatis was among them. Sadly, Chthos was slain by Sinestro Corps member Enkafos at the behest of Ranx.

The tide of the battle turned when the Guardians of the Universe enabled the Lantern rings to use lethal force against the Sinestro Corps. Chthos-Chthas Chthatis was avenged by Sodam Yat, who killed Enkafos and then obliterated Ranx. Mogo was saved from his attackers.

The Green Lanterns ultimately defeated the Sinestro Corps and their allies. Upon hearing of the death of her partner, Sendrina has dedicated herself to eradicate the Children of the White Lobe. Chthos-Chthas Chthatis is memorialized in the Crypts of the Green Lantern Corps on Oa.

BLACK LANTERN: CHTHOS-CHTHAS CHTHATIS

During the event known as the Blackest Night, black rings desecrated the Crypts. The ring placed itself upon his corpse, downloaded all of his memories and created a duplicate of his body that rose from the grave as a member of the Black Lantern Corps.

POWERS AND WEAPONS

As a Green Lantern, Chthos-Chthas Chthatis possessed a power ring and power battery.
