HISTORY
Lantern Ermey was a strict drill instructor assigned to train new recruits, known as “white circles,” in the Green Lantern Corps. To the hardened Ermey, they were “poozers” or “useless rookies.” Though he trained them in the use of the power ring, Ermey did not want them to soley rely on its abilities. He took the recruits to the planet Fourscore, so named for its four extreme and distinct atmospheric zones of volcanic activity, desert sands, ocean and ice. They would need to learn to survive in situations without the rings. Despite his outward demeanor, Ermey cared deeply for the recruits and was hard on them to make them stronger.
Amongst the last of his trainees were two rookies Kilowog of Bolovax Vik in Sector 674 and Tomar-Re of Xudar in Sector 2813. Ermey referred to Kilowog as “Brillolog from planet Ballowax.” It was during their training on Fourscore that an emergency transmission was received. A group of at least six Lanterns including Sinestro of Korugar were on a protection and evacuation mission. When they came under siege from enemy forces, their power rings could not be recharged due to a dimensional dampener.
Ermey led the recruits into the battle, only to be mortally wounded by an enemy beta-cannon. Recruit Kilowog took the lead to secure the cannon and route the enemy. Ermey lived long enough to learn the civilians and Lanterns were saved. His dying words were of his admiration for the success of Kilowog and the recruits. During the event known as the Blackest Night, black rings desecrated the Crypts. The ring placed itself upon his corpse, downloaded all of his memories and created a body that rose from the grave as a member of the Black Lantern Corps. -Gren Lantern Corps Vol. 2 #41-42

GLCWP NOTE
Green Lantern Ermey was named after former U.S. Marine drill instructor and later actor R. Lee Ermey, who played Gunnery Sergeant Hartman in the 1987 movie FULL METAL JACKET.
