HISTORY

According to legends, the priest known as Seti was the power behind the throne of Rameses the Third and was rumored to command the elements themselves. He was familiar with the wizard Shazam, though their relationship, if any, has not been detailed. When Seti died, his "ka" or his essence, was preserved, held in a jar waiting to be released.

In the late 20th Century, Professor Tolemy, assistant curator of the Fawcett City Museum arranged to have a wing devoted to ancient Egyptian history and artifacts and brought an impressive collection to the museum. Tolemy had a great love of ancient Egyptian history, and was angered that the public was only interested in the legends, sensational stories not the truth about ancient Egypt. He thought that if he brought Seti back he could make people understand how magnificent the ancient Egyptians' civilization was.

On the day before the opening of the exhibit, Professor Tolemy smashed the display case holding Seti's ceremonial mask, and the ancient jar filled with dust. The ka of Seti swept through the museum, and entered the body of the professor, giving him great power, but Seti was vengeful and angry. He pledged to bring the world to its knees for the glory of Egypt.

Seti was opposed by Captain Marvel and Green Lantern Kyle Rayner. The forces wielded by Seti were indeed formidable and the heroes incorrectly assumed the mask possessed whoever was wearing it, but Green Lantern found removing the mask did nothing to slow Seti.

Ultimately, Captain Marvel seized the possessed Professor Tolemy and made him see the destruction of the Egyptian exhibit was Seti's fault. Realizing the truth of the hero's words, Tolemy was able to force Seti out of his body. The ka left the Professor's body and tried to enter Captain Marvel's but was caught by Green Lantern. Now free of Seti, and aware of the dire consequences of his actions, Professor Tolemy promised to imprison Seti once more. Seti has not been heard from since. - Green Lantern Vol. 3 #72
