HISTORY
Following Hal Jordan's return and the defeat of Parallax, the Green Lantern Corps was reborn and greatly expanded. Now two Lanterns would protect each sector. For Space Sector 2684, Quond and Tanakata Z were chosen. Little is known about their service records. The pair assisted Green Lantern Vath Sarn of Rann during a natural disaster on the planet Staphis in sector 2682.
After a disturbing incident on Procyon 8, Tanakata Z visited Green Lantern Mogo for counseling. Over the years, many ring wielders had entered Mogo's therapeutic forests, but unbeknownst to all, Mogo was infected by a member of the Sinestro Corps. Those that visited Mogo were unwittingly subjected to mind-altering spores.
Some time later, Tanakata Z and Quond were in the Clustral system when Honor Lantern Guy Gardner was sent by Salakk to assist. They were attempting to stabilize the orbiting environment that had been disrupted by anomalous matter discharge from the white dwarf star in the center of the system.
Tanakata Z made his resentment know to Gardner who was already in a foul mood as his shore leave had been cancelled. Tanakata Z goaded Quond to stand up against Gardner, finally convincing Quond to abandon their post. Gardner could not leave as Clustral was in jeopardy. Tanakata Z and Quond went back to their sector house to relax while Gardner angrily completed the difficult mission without any assistance.
Guy Gardner sought the lanterns out at their sector house to bring them in for court matrial, he found Quond dead and Tanakata Z mortally wounded. When Sector 2682 Lanterns Vath Sarn and Isamot Kol arrived, the dying Tanakata Z implicated Gardner in their deaths.
It was only later that the existence of the spores was learned and Guy Gardner was cleared of any suspicions.
Tanakata Z was memorialized in the Crypts of the Green Lantern Corps on Oa.

During the event known as the Blackest Night, black rings desecrated the Crypts. The ring placed itself upon his corpse, downloaded all of his memories and created a duplicate of his body that rose from the grave as a member of the Black Lantern Corps.

As a Green Lantern, Tanakata Z possessed a power ring and power battery.
