HISTORY
Sent in search of the missing Green Lantern of Vengar, Thormon Tox and his partner, Xax of Xaos, found Space Sector 3500 in ruins. Hundreds of worlds had been destroyed in what was referred to as the "Stygian Passover." A voice in the Green Lanterns’ minds called them to the planet Vardu, which was under attack by the forces of Lady Styx.
While Tox took a statement from Luribel, a native of Vardu, Xax contacted Oa. The Guardians of the Universe ordered a recall of all Green Lanterns from the occupied zones. In the words of one of the Guardians, Lady Styx arose "…from the eternal pit beyond the gates of space-time itself…" using "void technology to power its weapons and contaminates all flesh it encounters." The Lanterns were trapped on Vardu.
For five days the Lanterns held off the Necroton Troops of the Stygian Passover, but they were worn down by superior numbers with no end in sight. The defeated Thormon Tox was carried off by the forces of Lady Styx. Xax contacted Oa once more, requesting immediate backup but was denied as the Guardians of the Universe did not want to risk exposing other Lanterns to an extra-universal contaminant. His power ring was shut down, and he and Luribel were overwhelmed mere moments afterwards.
It is likely Thormon Tox was made into a soldier for Lady Styx, but it has yet to be confirmed. The power rings of Thormon Tox and Xax were literally crushed in the jaws of Lady Styx. - 52 #31
Thormon Tox and Xax are both memorialized in the Crypts of the Green Lantern Corps on Oa.
