Synopsis: - Jack returns to the present with Thom Kallor, a member of the 31st-century Legion of Super-Heroes, who will one day become a Starman of the 21st century. Thom reminds him that the future is not set in stone. When Jack returns home, he finds a letter from Sadie, begging him to give up being Starman and come to San Francisco with her, telling him that she's pregnant with his child - a girl. Jack realises that this is what he too wants, and decides to make his goodbyes and pass on his cosmic rod. Charity tells him that he may act as Starman once more, for the sake of his father's memory.
- He then visits the O'Dares at the police department - Clarence is now officially the Commissioner of Opal City, and is responsible for hiring both Bobo Bennetti and Black Condor as public servants. Hope is going to take a break in Mexico (and ask Shade out on a date when she returns), and Mason of course is going to marry Charity. However, Mason takes an arrow aimed at Jack from the Spider, which hits an artery and kills him. Charity is instantly aware of this, but is reassured by John Zatara, who restores Mason to life as a wedding gift to the couple. Jack later stops by to collect his son (Teddy) from Tony, who has been babysitting him; Tony asks him to talk to Mikaal, as the two have been drifting apart since Mik's return from space. Mik wants to work things out, and is encouraged by Jack, who now regards him as a brother. He also visits the Shade, who vows to track down the Spider, and also shows Jack his home, giving him an Opal rose to remind him of the city. In return Jack uses his cosmic rod to purge the Shade of Culp's shadow.
- Jack then passes on his cosmic rod - to Courtney Whitmore, the Star-Spangled Kid. He makes this choice because he has seen how wise she becomes in the future, but tells her not to take on the role of Stargirl until she feels ready. Jack then packs up his stuff and leaves Opal to start a new life and a new family in San Francisco, happy that he's left everything in order.
