HISTORY

On the planet Ysmault, Atrocitus used the remains of marooned travelers to create a patchwork creature known as Abysmus. This was only one of Atrocitus' experiments as he attempted to create the Red Lantern Corps. Some flaw within this creation sickened Atrocitus, and he killed Abysmus, burying him forever, or so he thought. The Ysmaault soil both fed and fed on Abysmus, preventing the creature's death.

In recent times, a "new and even more powerful master" unearthed Abysmus. The details of this event have yet to be revealed. Abysmus found the body of dead Krona and flayed the fallen Guardian to wear his skin. He at the body, claiming Krona's power was now his. Abysmus then went on to dig up more of Atrocitus' buried "mistakes" and used his creator's blood magic to create the Abysmorphs, servants of his own.

When Abysmus finally confronted Atrocitus, he attacked both his creator. By tearing out one of his own ribs, Atrocitus stabbed the Central Power Battery of the Red Lanterns, poisoning the red energy. Abysmus has escaped Ysmault with one of his Abysmorphs, in a starcraft once utilized by Iroque, now known as the leader of the Indigo Tribe.
