HISTORY

Doctor Curtis Engstrom was called in as a consultant for S.T.A.R. Labs as they attempted to design a medical microcomputer with the help of the Philosopher's Stone confiscated from the first Dr. Alchemy (Albert Desmond). Tempted by their value, Engstrom stole both the Stone and the computer's microchip. However, he could not figure out how to use the Stone, and was soon put into prison. While he was in jail, the computer was stolen from him by his cellmate, Moe Migliani. Full of hate, Engstrom escaped prison, stole back the Philosopher's Stone and, in his rage, made it work.

Calling himself the Alchemist, he tried to kill Migliani, but was opposed by the Flash (Wally West). Due to his limited control of the Stone, the Alchemist was defeated and again sentenced to prison.

Later, it appears that Engstrom may have returned to a career of crime under the name of Dr. Alchemy (III). Since then, however, Albert Desmond has reclaimed the title.
