OVERVIEW

An ancient Atlantean sorcerer, who was relatively recently revealed to be the true father of Aquaman. Atlan served as Tempest's tutor when the young Atlantean came into his own magical heritage.

HISTORY

A descendant of Orin I, Atlan was born over 3,000 years ago in the Atlantean underwater city of Poseidonis. Young Atlan was an explorer who visited many great nations of the surface world. Over the centuries, he became a sorcerer, gaining vast powers and growing more arrogant with them. During this time, he made many powerful enemies.

In modern times, Atlan visited and seduced the Atlantean Queen Atlanna in a dream, and fathered her with a child who was condemned to death for having blond hair. However, the infant survived and returned to Atlantis years later as Aquaman. Atlan also fathered a son named Orm with an eskimo woman – Orm grew up to become the villainous Ocean Master – and he is allegedly the father of Tsunami's daughter Deep Blue.

Aquaman only recently learned that Atlan was his father. Since their first meeting, Atlan has helped his son out on many occasions, for example in battle with Kordax and the Hunter/Gatherers. He was also the tutor of Tempest (II), and taught him his magic heritage in the realm called the Grotto. However, the arrogant and manipulative Atlan is not always an easy ally.

POWERS AND WEAPONS

Atlan is a master wizard who possesses precognitive skills and telepathy. He is virtually impervious to harm, and has kept himself young for millennia using magical potions. He has been believed killed at least twice, but is probably still alive somewhere.
