HISTORY
In 2045, the man who would be the Batman of that future world was a world class gymnast and doctoral candidate in criminology. Idolizing the original Batman of Gotham City, he deduced the Caped Crusader's identity and discovered the Batcave under Wayne Manor. It was fortunate, as the underground shelter saved him from the nuclear attack which ravaged his world. His parents had also survived the attack, but not the upheaval that was to follow. Miriam Cohen was a rabbi, Kenneth Cohen was a disarmament negotiator. They became scapegoats for the National Reconstruction Alliance and were gunned down.
Their son adopted the guise of Batman, vowing to keep all firearms out of New York City. For a few years he was successful, and helped bring much needed stability to the city, but he had also made enemies. By 2050, the group known as the Combine sought out the time-tossed gunfighter Jonah Hex to eliminate the Batman. - Hex #12
Hex was led to believe the Batman had tortured and killed his friend Stiletta. He was brought to New York for their inevitable confrontation. Ultimately the two learned they had been set-up and the Combine had used the distaction to help move armaments into the city unopposed. The Batman is believed to have lost his life while battling a trio of massive armed automatons. His Batwing crashed into the Hudson River, but no body was ever recovered. - Hex #12 - 13
