HISTORY

Constructed by the Guardian Rami and concealed within the crushing gravity of a black hole, the Chamber of Shadows served a singular, vital purpose: the containment of the immensely powerful First Lantern, Volthoom.

Recognizing the magnitude of the threat Volthoom posed, a faction of the Guardians of the Universe made the momentous decision to enter the Chamber themselves, establishing a perpetual vigil over the prisoner. Their resolve was absolute; they would destroy any who dared to attempt the First Lantern's liberation.

These dedicated Guardians, who would later become known as the Templar Guardians, committed themselves to an eternal vigil, awaiting the prophesied day when the universe would be saved. With their duty established, the Chamber of Shadows was sealed.

However, billions of years later, a profound shift occurred. Following the perceived failure of their Green Lantern Corps and the earlier downfall of the Manhunters, the Guardians of the Universe concluded that free will itself was the root of cosmic chaos. In a stunning reversal, they unsealed the Chamber of Shadows, callously slaying the Templar Guardian Reegal. They then extracted the First Lantern, Volthoom, to serve their own misguided plans. With their purpose twisted, the Chamber was sealed once more, with the Templar Guardians no longer wardens but prisoners.
