HISTORY
A high school student and comic book "fanboy," Finster had quite an active imagination. Working at Grudge's Comic Shop may not have paid him much or improved his social life but at least he could be surrounded by comics.
His love of comics was not shared by his history teacher, Ms. Lynch. Finster was caught reading the Green Lantern Archives rather than Contemporary World History and despite his protest he was going to become a comic book artist Ms. Lynch threw the Archive in the dumpster outside the classroom window. Finster tried to fish it out of the dumpster while Ms. Lynch piled on homework assignments and out of the corner of his eye thought he saw something in the sky.
Out in space, two spaceships were locked in battle, one piloted by a member of the Green Lantern Corps. The alien Green Lantern was outgunned and unable to escape his attacker. When a blast from the other ship cracked his ship's nuclear rods the Green Lantern knew he would die. Like Abin Sur, the alien Green Lantern was obligated to find someone worthy to receive the power ring. Scanning the nearest planet, Earth, the Green Lantern found an unlikely candidate, Finster. With only seconds to spare, the Green Lantern ordered the ring to go to its new wielder. The Green Lantern's space ship was destroyed in a fiery blast.
Finster was reading the latest issue of "Elf-People" when the power ring landed on his finger. Though surprised by this turn of events, Finster did not dwell on it as his thoughts turned to Kimberly, the unattainable girlfriend of Hank.
On his own, Finster stood no chance against Hank and the bullying jock scared Finster off. Though he was thinking about how much he would have liked to dump a bowl of stew over Hank's head, Finster had no idea the ring sent an emerald beam which picked up the bowl of beef stew and dumped it on Hank's head.
When Finster recalled a fantasy about the food in the cafeteria coming to life and attacking the cafeteria ladies, the power ring turned his daydream into reality. The chili con carne, chicken tostada, lasagna and chow mein rose up to chase the cafeteria workers, even the milk got into the act.
Once Finster the cafeteria mayhem was caused by the ring on his finger, an actual power ring worn by Green Lantern, he clothes transformed into the uniform of the Corps.
Flying over his hometown, Finster saw a hungry homeless family and supplied them with Mr. Grudge's "snack." Finster was thinking about other people in his life that he could now deal with, wondering if his ring could help him with Ms. Lynch.
A green fireball struck the napping Ms. Lynch and she was supercharged by the emerald energy, transforming into an armored supervillain possessing the powers of flight and super-strength. Finster was unable to fight back as his power ring's twenty-four hour charge ran out shortly before Ms. Lynch captured him.
Finster and half a dozen other students were trapped in a "secret outer space punishment place" where Ms. Lynch hooked them up to a machine which would drill information into their minds, facts and figures without the context to enable her students to understand what they were memorizing. Ms. Lynch left to monitor her students' progress but was surprised to find they were not learning anything, just memorizing data they would forget right after she tested them.
Finster's power ring had just enough energy to call someone to save him. It was a fellow Corps member, Green Lantern Hal Jordan. Once Jordan freed Finster, the two Green Lanterns charged their rings at Jordan's power battery. They recited their oaths as the rings were powered for another twenty-four hours.
Jordan left it up to Finster as to how Ms. Lynch should be dealt with. The newest Green Lantern strapped Ms. Lynch into the same device she had subjected her students to. Before Jordan left, he reminded Finster it was the person that wore the ring, not the ring itself that mattered. As for Ms. Lynch, she was force fed historical information without context and learned the errors of her ways.
Finster's career as a Green Lantern was cut short when a Guardian of the Universe appeared to reclaim the power ring. Though the Guardian was puzzled why Finster received the ring in the first place, the very idea that someone such as Sandy could care about Finster meant there was hope for the comic book-reading high school student. -Fanboy #2
Some time later, when Weasel stole a box of comics from Grudge's Comic shop Finster went berserk with anger. He transformed into the rampaging behemoth known as the Incredible Finster and faced the JLA, including their resident Green Lantern, Kyle Rayner. Fortunately for the world, or at least Finster, Sandy was able to keep his imagination in check until he could calm down. -Fanboy #3
