OVERVIEW

A Thanagarian secret agent who posed as the hero Hawkman.

HISTORY

Following Paran Katar's returned to Thanagar in the 1950s the Thanagarians' observations of Earth had been scant. However when an alliance of alien warlords including the Dominators and Khunds decided to invade Earth their attention was renewed. Thanagarian Wingman Fel Andar, the nephew of government official Andar Pul, was sent to Earth to gather information before the actual Invasion!. Arriving on Earth he began passing himself off as Carter Hall, Jr., the son of Carter and Shiera Hall who had been sent to Thanagar at an early age to study Thanagarian ways. As per his assignment he met and married an Earth woman who could join his as Hawkwoman when he took to the skies as Carter's successor to the role of Hawkman.

Andar worked hard to create the image of a true hero and with Carter and Shiera trapped in Limbo along with the rest of the JSA he was able to convince both Superman, the Atom and the Martian Manhunter that he was telling the truth about his heritage [Hawkworld Vol. 2 #22 (April 1992): "Escape from Thanagar"] and before long Andar and his wife Sharon were invited to join the Justice League. Although Andar attemped to make it look like he didn't care much for the idea it suited his mission perfectly as he as a member of the Justice League would be able to gather lots of information on the superhero community so in the end both he and Sharon joined.

When the alien invasion eventually broke out, Andar stayed in character and he even helped the Animal Man detonating a Thanagarian bomb that might have obliterated the entire west coast [Animal Man #6 (Holiday 1989): "Birds of Prey"]. Toward the end of the Invasion! his wife Sharon overheard a conversation between Andar and the Thanagarian forces, so in order to keep his secret he had to kill her. However, although he succeded in his task, Sharon managed to escape and get word to the Martian Manhunter before drawing her last breath. Knowing his secret had been blown Andar returned to Thanagar along with the retreating Thanagarian forces. Only a few members of the JLI ever learned the truth but they choose to keep quiet to protect the name of Hawkman. [Hawkworld Vol. 2 #23 (May 1992): "Escape from Thanagar"]

A couple of years later Andar returned to Earth along with Shayera Thal, this time posing as Katar Hol, the new Hawkman who was trapped on Thanagar at the time, to retrieve an Aonian Voyager that Hol had fought earlier. Andar's uncle had also ordered him to kill Shayera as she had threatened to reveal that she was actually Pul's daughter, a fact that could very well cost him his high ranking position on Thanagar [Hawkworld Vol. 2 #24 (June 1992): "Escape from Thanagar"]. However, the plan backfired and Andar was brought down by Hol who had escaped to Earth and he was eventually returned home. [Hawkworld Vol. 2 #25 (July 1992): "Escape from Thanagar"]

POWERS AND WEAPONS

Fel Andar was outfitted as a Thanagarian Wingman. This meant that he had wings and belts based on anti-gravity technology as patterned after Carter Hall's by Paran Katar, the main difference was that the Thanagarian wings were more solid and could be used as a bullet proof barrier if necessary. He also wore regulation body armour and was trained in the use of standard firearms. When posing as Hawkman (Carter Hall, Jr.) he wore an outfit similar to that of the Golden Age Hawkman.
