OVERVIEW
A group of ruthless women working for Apokolips' tyrannical ruler Darkseid. Led by Bernadeth (Desaad's sister), who wields a deadly blazing knife, the Furies are constantly scheming to gain more power and prestige, but they are unswervingly loyal to Granny Goodness who 'lovingly' trained them all. The other Furies are the stubbornly obedient Stompa, whose footfalls can create mini-earthquakes; Lashina, fierce wielder of numerous flexible metallic bands; and the completely insane Mad Harriet, whose hands are equipped with razor-sharp claws.
The Furies were originally led by Barda and have often been in conflict with her since she defected to the side of 'good'. Other women have worked with the Furies from time to time, such as Artemiz, Bloody Mary, Gilotina, Malice and Speed Queen, but Bernadeth, Lashina, Stompa and Mad Harriet remain the core of this group of warriors.

HISTORY
The Female Furies are one of Darkseid's elite battalions under the command of Granny Goodness, the twisted crone who runs the orphanages that produce soldiers for Apokolips. Those select few who make it into the Female Furies are often gifted with a special power or talent which separates them from the rest of the cannon-fodder. The Female Furies remain unswervingly loyal to Granny Goodness who 'lovingly' trained them all.
Big Barda was the first Female Fury to rebel and leave her position as team leader in order to join the side of good. When she let the young Scott Free, the biological son of Highfather, escape to Earth, Barda struck a connection with him which eventually made her leave Apokolips for Earth in pursuit of love and happiness. Her gamble paid off; today she is married to Scott, who makes a living as the escape artist Mister Miracle. Granny Goodness has vowed to stop at nothing to get her revenge on Big Barda for her betrayal. Little did Barda know that her rebellion instilled hope in the heart of the young Female Fury trainee Knockout, who also fled to Earth where she later became the partner of Superboy and still later the accomplice and wife of Scandal Savage.
The current leader in battle is Bernadeth, but she is constantly challenged by her rival Lashina, fierce wielder of numerous flexible metallic bands. Bernadeth is ample proof that bad blood runs in the family – she is the sister of Darkseid's advisor DeSaad. Another Fury also has ties to Darkseid's Elite – Malice Vundabar is the niece of Virmin Vundabar. The other Furies include the stubbornly obedient Stompa, whose footfalls can create mini-earthquakes; and the completely insane Mad Harriet, whose hands are equipped with razor-sharp claws.
