HISTORY

An independent bounty hunter, Hammeroon was in the Iiskado system tracking a Kreen wanted for genocide when he came upon Green Lantern Kyle Rayner. The Green Lantern from Earth was about to be devoured by a gittado, a carnivore which used telepathy and shapeshifting to ensnare its prey. A plasma grenade disposed of the gittado and saved Rayner's life. Unfortunately for the bounty hunter, the gittado had devoured the Kreen fugitive.

Searching for prospective members to form a new Green Lantern Corps, Rayner traveled with Hammeroon to Waystation in the Daffath system. They detected a distress signal thirty sectors galactic north of their position and, at Rayner's request, diverted course to intercept a space capsule from Earth. The capsule's sole occupant was Soviet cosmonaut Anya Savenlovich. The technology onboard Hammeroon's ship was able to thaw out the Earth woman who had been frozen in space for 35 years.

Arriving on Waystation spaceport, it was not long before they were involved in a brawl. Rayner and Hammeroon helped defend Garl Rathbone from numerous attackers. The trio and their opponents were soon apprehended by Waystation security and taken to trial. Judge Sool sentenced the trio to incarceration aboard Roundaway, a prison ship. The proceedings were cut short by Savenlovich. Bluffing the court, Savenlovich carried a piece of heating equipment from Hammeroon's ship, claiming she was holding a bomb. Savenlovich was able to distract the security forces long enough for her friends to get their weapons. Armed with the power ring, Rayner was able to cut their way out of the courtroom and lead his new friends in an escape from Waystation.

Hammeroon knew of a Samaritan House where they would find food, shelter and rest. Impressed by the value of a Green Lantern, Hammeroon considered taking the power battery but Garl Rathbone would have none of it. Hammeroon’s creditline was used to pay for items in the Samaritan House and also as a means for Judge Sool to track them. The judge arrived in the Lawbringer, a massive starship which dwarfed the Samaritan House. A stand off between Sool and Kyle Rayner was cut short when an antimatter wave swept their position. Rayner quickly erected a force field around them. The Samaritan House and its occupants, as well as Rayner and Sool were the only survivors. The remainder of the solar system had been reduced to rubble.

Rayner gave his friends and Sool their own power rings and batteries to assist him in finding the source of the antimatter wave. Each charged his or her power ring while reciting an oath of their own making. They would be Green Lanterns.

They were traveling through space, making their way to the center of the antimatter anomaly when they came under fire by a small fleet of Van'n Imperium ships. Realizing they were facing Green Lanterns, the Van’n changed their energy weapons to the yellow spectrum. This was only the first wave, the Green Lanterns would have to battle the forces of the entire Van'n homeworld. The Van'n Imperium was led by Magaan, a conqueror who had been given a power ring by the naive Kyle Rayner. Magaan had used the power ring to help create an invincible army which would eliminate all other life in the galaxy.

Rayner went off to battle Magaan while the four other Green Lanterns scoured the Van'n homeworld for a control center. While Garl drew the enemy fire, the other ring wielders pushed onwards until they found a turret firing on other Van'n fighters. Once inside the turret, they were contacted by Phothus, the brain of the Van'n homeworld. Phothus was once merely a tool of Magaan's but it had grown self aware and opposed Magaan's plans for galactic conquest. To stop the antimatter wave, Phothus needed the Green Lanterns to unearth and disconnect an inhibitor device.

To buy his friends time, Hammeroon fought Magaan's hordes alone. It was up to him to prevent them from entering the building which housed Photus. Nearing the 24 hour limit of his power ring's charge, Hammeroon could not pause in battle to recharge at his power battery. To defeat as many enemies as possible, Hammeroon used the reserve energy in his power ring, the energy spared to save the wearer from mortal injury, to collapse the archway above him. His sacrifice enabled his friends to complete their task which led to the defeat of Magaan and the destruction of the Van'n homeworld.

The new Green Lantern Corps would end as quickly as it had begun. Rayner took back the power rings, he would wait until he had the time and experience to create a new Corps.

Rayner carved the remaining rock of the Van'n homeworld into a tomb to honor the fallen Green Lantern.
