HISTORY
Hangar 44, located at Edwards Air Force Base in California, was a military facility secured and equipped to contain alien technology. Under the command of General Jonathan "Herc" Stone, it initially served as a research facility dedicated to studying "a flying saucer sighted west of Coast City." This was the crashed spaceship of the late Green Lantern Abin Sur. The ship was rebuilt from the ground up with the pieces found at the crash site but the engine could not be replicated.
Years later, following the defeat of the Manhunter invasion in the event known as Millennium, a Manhunter Android was pulled out of the Louisiana bayou. The recovered technology led the researchers to create the X-2020 Project. The Android was shipped to Nellis Air Force Base in Nevada for further study. [1]
After work on the X-2020 project was halted, Hangar 44 was fully transformed into a containment unit specifically for extra-terrestrial threats.[2]
