HISTORY

Dr. Helmut Kripptman was an early experimenter in genetic engineering. As a Jew he was imprisoned in the Dachau concentration camp outside of Munich. Because of his abilities he was made a trustee prisoner and set to work for the Nazi's Institute for Race, Biological and Anthropological Investigation in Dachau, reporting directly to Joseph Mengele. Following the war he was secretly smuggled to the United States to help U.S. intelligence community against the Communist Bloc.

Kripptman later created the cover identity of Harry Kay, and became an employee of the Sunderland Corporation. While working for the Sunderland Corporation he met Dennis Barclay in Switzerland and offered Barclay directorship of what would become the Barclay Clinic. Barclay believed it was because of their joint discovery of Barclay's psychic healing abilities, but in reality this was just a ruse by Kay. In reality what Barclay thought was his work was the work of Kay's artificially created test-tube beings dubbed Receptors that absorb all injury and disease from the patient they were programmed to heal.

Kay would continue as a special operative for the Sunderland Corporation for several years while conducting his own experiments. Seeking Alec Holland's Bio-Restorative formula Kay abducted Karen Clancy a young girl that Swamp Thing had befriended in order to bait and capture him.
