OVERVIEW

In an alternate year 2000, the Hawk-Lanterns were hybrid beings that helped take over the world.

HISTORY

Planning on ruling the present by changing the past, the Justice League of America's foe T. O. Morrow used a massive computer of his own design to "edit" history from 1941 onwards. By placing 21st Century technology into the hands of selected individuals at specific times in 1941, the year 2000 was altered to Morrow's whims.

Assisted by the Hourman of the 853rd Century, the JLA utilized the Flash's cosmic treadmill to go back into the past and secretly remove their era's technology. They were eventually discovered by the Justice Society of America in 1941 and imprisoned by the Spectre.

The JSA saw the potential of the future technology to wipe out disease, famine and war and believed the JLA and the JLA's future to be a threat to their world. Of all the JSA members, the Spectre was the most steadfast in his opposition to the visitors from the future, a future which the JSA members viewed as horrific. Only Jay Garrick, the Golden Age Flash saw the JLA as heroes and the advanced technology as the true threat. The remainder of the JSA battled the JLA members. Some heroes battled their future namesakes, such as the JSA’s Golden Age Green Lantern (Alan Scott) versus the JLA’s Green Lantern (Kyle Rayner). -DC 2000 #1-#2

With Superman and Batman creating a diversion, most of the JLA was able to escape to the year 2000. The future Hourman was constantly giving updates on the time edits performed by T. O. Morrow as the year 2000 changed around them. The JSA was doing their fair share of altering the future, believing theirs to be a noble cause. The Justice Society introduced Morrow's inventions to the world, resulting in a dramatic drop in crime, famine, disease and war.

At one point, the JSA almost captured T. O. Morrow but were only able to secure a copy of the human genome project brought from decades in their future. This was to prove to be the greatest threat to their future.

The human genome information led to the creation of the next generation of successor heroes, the Justice Squadron. Hybrid versions of Hawkman/Green Lantern, the Flash/the Atom, Doctor Fate/the Spectre, Sandman/Doctor Mid-Nite and Starman/Hourman, wielded the powers of their namesakes. These hybrids numbered in the dozens and featured combinations of costumes and powers of the JSA. .

Unlike their legendary "parents," the Justice Squadron was corrupt and in 1992 achieved world domination. In the year 2000, the Justice Squadron led an assault on T. O. Morrow's headquarters to seize his time computer. The Hawkman/Green Lanterns could not capture Morrow but they were within 57.26 seconds of accessing his computer. Once it was in their possession, all of time and space would be theirs for the taking.

Learning of this, the future Hourman warned the freed members of the JLA. They were joined by Superman, Batman and the JSA who were brought to the alternate year 2000 by Doctor Fate. The Spectre had realized it was his fear of the future that fueled his anger against the JLA.

The JLA and JSA fought to take the computer and were successful. The Justice Squadron attempted to destroy it but they were turned to toy soldiers by the power of the Spectre. Working together with the knowledge of T. O. Morrow, the JLA and JSA were able to go back to various points in 1941 where Morrow had given away technology and prevent the time edits from occurring. Once this was complete, the JLA returned to their future while in 1941, the entire adventure was erased from the memory of the JSA as the correct flow of time was restored. -DC 2000 #2
