Synopsis:

The heroes of the JLA encounter a number of disturbing ritual murders world-wide, which they believe to be connected to the Diablos. Meanwhile in Egypt, an immortal man worries that his 'spiritual tenant' is going to do terrible things to the entire world. Elsewhere, the Diablos begin to torture Blue Devil to find out more about the Sentinels of Magic - Anita Soulfeeda realizes that Doctor Occult is still at large and plans to go after both him and June Moon. Faust, for his part, gets in contact with his father, who assures him that he has nothing to do with the Diablos' actions and asks Faust for the Goethe translation he acquired earlier. In Detroit, Rose Psychic waits for Blue Devil, but instead is greeted by the Diablos. Reverting to her male identity as Doctor Occult, she takes them on as they begin to gun down the club's other patrons. Green Lantern and Wonder Woman help the doctor subdue the Diablos and capture one of their number.

Whatever the devils are planning - the Black Baptism - will happen tomorrow according to Blue Devil's torturer. Unaware of the time scale, Faust visits June Moon once again, but comes up against Anita Soulfeeda, who plans to double-cross the Diablos. She tries to get Faust on her side, revealing that she is working for another: his father. And the immortal, Felix Faust, finally loses control of his body to the soul which is sharing it: Hermes Trismegistus, who plans to destroy all life on Earth.
