OVERVIEW
One of the first supervillains to battle then-new hero Firestorm, Killer Frost possessed formidable ice powers and a burning hatred of men. Arguably the best known of the nuclear hero's rogues gallery, research scientist Crystal Frost may have been the first to carry the name Killer Frost, but her life as a villain was brief. Shortly after the original Frost's death, Dr. Louise Lincoln gained ice powers as the second Killer Frost.
HISTORY
While a student at Hudson University, Crystal Frost felt she was a victim of prejudice against women and convinced no male would ever consider her an equal. The sole exception was one of her professors, Martin Stein. The socially withdrawn woman misconstrued his kind and respectful nature as love.
Years later, she was part of a team of scientists working on a project in the arctic. When Stein visited the project she was incensed to learn he had never been in love with her. Stein had only thought of her in professional terms, though Frost saw Stein as toying with her in order to ridicule her with the rest of the project's scientists who were all males.
It was in this upset frame of mind that Frost accidentally locked herself in an experimental thermofrost chamber. Stein and the other scientists tried to save her but believed she was dead. She was not, in fact she had been transformed into a twisted being of ice, Killer Frost. Using her new powers, Frost rapidly stole the heat from their bodies as she needed heat to survive and had no qualms about taking the lives of men to feed her hunger.
Unbeknownst to Killer Frost, Stein was part of the composite superhuman, Firestorm. As the Nuclear Man, the hero was able to defeat his new foe by plunging her into a deep freeze. - Firestorm #3
Killer Frost would next return to threaten Firestorm when she briefly gained control over Superman. She had made the Man of Steel an ice slave before he was freed from her grasp. She would later go on to join an incarnation of the Secret Society of Super-Villains, led by the Ultra-Humanite. The villain team battled both the Justice League of America and the Justice Society of America before once again meeting defeat. - DC Comics Presents #17, Justice League of America #195-97
