HISTORY

Larifars are a species of energy beings thus far only encountered in Space Sector 2814. They came to the attention of Green Lantern Abin Sur after their actions on the planet Athmoora where the Larifars robbed the populace of their so-called "I-Factor," a term used by the Larifars to describe feeding off a species' intelligence potential, something the Larifars lacked and desired as part of a goal of universal domination. Their plans were derailed when Abin Sur captured some twenty Larifars on the planet Pendara.

One of the Larifars, Balzona, had scouted the planet Orlana and therefore evaded capture. Balzona stalked Abin Sur, drawing the ring wielder out on Abin Sur's homeworld of Ungara. Balzona was able to possess and compel Abin Sur to return to Pendara, however he did not understand the usage of the power ring. Thinking to conserve the ring's energy Balzona and had the Green Lantern take a spacecraft for the journey. Believing he had control of the situation, Balzona separated himself from Abin Sur's body. This gave Abin Sur the opportunity to secretly recharge his ring and gather his will to battle and finally capture Balzona and send the energy being to join his fellow Larifars in imprisonment. The substantial damage to the spacecraft led to Abin Sur crash landing on Earth[1]

POWERS

Balzona possesses Abin Sur

Consisting of energy, Larifars are able to survive the rigors of space unaided and are capable of travelling faster than light, though the exact method of this ability are not known. Larifars are able to release beams of destructive radiation which they can combine as a group. Additionally, they possess telekinetic powers. The Larifars' most dangerous power is the ability to possess and compel humanoids to do their bidding as well as rob their intelligence potential. While Larifars could control a humanoid's mind, they were unable to read thoughts or memories.
