HISTORY

Osiris ('the mighty one') is the Egyptian god of death, fertility, and resurrection. He also serves as the judge of souls and the king of the underworld. He is married to his sister Isis and is the father of Horus.

When his usurper brother Seth killed Osiris and chopped his body into pieces, Isis gathered all the scattered pieces, mummified Osiris and was able to revive her husband with the help of the other gods. Osiris became the lord of the underworld and was set as judge over the souls of the deceased together with Thoth and Anubis. In modern times, Osiris and the death gods of a few other pantheons – the Norse Hel, the Irish Morrigan and the Roman Pluto – went into hiding out of fear for Lucifer and conspired to steal the life force of Thessaly, the last of the Thessalian witches. This scheme proved to be his own undoing, since Thessily chopped him into pieces and scattered them all over space. In this aspect, Osiris was depicted as also having a bird's head.
