HISTORY

The USA is governed not by one but by two governments. One, the democratically-elected body we all know about. The other, a shadow government with a more sinister history. Puppeteered from the Sub-Divisions of the Pentagon, it has one purpose above all: to erase all things queer, abnormal and eccentric from the ordered world.

It began in the 19th century, when Alexander Graham Bell's invention of the telephone gave birth to a powerful Telephone Avatar. This Avatar was eventually captured and exploited by the U.S. government, and the Pentagon - in reality a pentagram - was built to trap spirits of the dead. Collected in an "ant farm" in the deepest Pentagon levels, these souls were fed to the Avatar, who gave power to the project in return.

The Pentagon's rogue forces has clashed repeatedly with the Doom Patrol. Although the Patrol finally managed to destroy the Telephone Avatar, the agency continued their "anti-queer" agenda. Strangely, this agenda does not seem to extend to their own agents. Fighting fire with fire, the successful "Unusual Operatives Division", has overseen the creations of the Men from N.O.W.H.E.R.E., the Sex Men, and Yankee Doodle, the latter of which was responsible for the massacre of the Brotherhood of Dada.

Known agents of the Sub-Divisions include the insane Major Honey and his right-hand man, Sergeant Washington, who later betrayed the Pentagon and became a drag queen on Danny the Street. Another traitor was Harry Christmas, a ghost-communicator who worked with the Avatar Project before escaping.

Not wanting the common man to learn of their existence, the Sub-Divisions frequently send out the infamous Men in Black, the Men in Green, and the worst of the lot, the Men in Mauve, to ensure that their secret is kept.
