HISTORY
Although the World War II "Phantom Clipper" has been described as the Navy's equivalent of the "Haunted Tank", there was nothing truly supernatural about this old sailing ship. However, its ancient-looking exterior hid a tip-top modern engine and advanced armaments, including a smoke machine that cloaked the Clipper and created an eerie effect that added to the legend of it being a "ghost ship". The Clipper was donated to the US Navy by retired Captain Seth Perkins, and then commanded by Lieutenant "Tiger" Shark whose crew used it in battle with Nazis at least until late 1942.
