HISTORY
In the distant future, long after the Earth itself had faded into legend and humankind had scattered among the stars, a corporation had found a way to thrive using slave labor.
The planet Praxis IV was an inhospitable world with a primarily methane atmosphere and surface temperatures nearing 1000 degrees. To mine platinum ore from this alien hell, the corporation developed a system of projecting the consciousness of their captives from the orbiting Minecore station into artificially created bodies of the surface of Praxis IV. They were referred to by the derogative term "tooljerks" and would mine platinum until the brain death of their physical bodies.
