HISTORY

A mer-man and surgeon from the Atlantean city-state of Tritonis, with whom Lori Lemaris fell in love after he had saved her life. However, Ronal owed much of his healing abilities to a magic staff that slowly corrupted him. Out of jealousy, he lied to Superman (who had been in love with Lori), telling him that Lori had died during the Crisis. He also used his staff to mutate sea life in horrible ways. When Lori attempted to stop the experiments, Ronal hit her with the staff in a fit of rage. Luckily, it did not kill her, but transformed her physically. Ronal was imprisoned for his crimes, but later reappeared in Metropolis, seeking his staff. During a confrontation with Superman and Lori in an aquatic museum, the gemstone in the staff was shattered and Ronal was turned to stone.
