HISTORY
In the thirtieth century, the Servants of Darkness were twisted clones of powerful beings from the twentieth century. They were sent throughout the galaxy to collect objects of power for their master, Darkseid. One of the Servants was a clone of a Guardian of the Universe.
The Legion of Super-Heroes first met the Oan Servant of Darkness in London, in the year 2982. It was attempting to steal Excalibur, the legendary sword of King Arthur, when members of the Legion interferred with its plans. The Oan Servant was able to keep Wildfire and Invisible Boy at bay while it escaped through a space warp with the sword. On Apokolips, it presented Excalibur to Darkseid. - Legion of Super-Heroes Vol. 2 #290
The Legion engaged other servants in battle before they faced the Oan again. It had returned to capture the White Witch, but was chased away by Sun Boy's yellow solar blasts. Legion of Super-Heroes Vol. 2 #291
On the Sorcerer's World, the Legion of Super-Heroes fought four of the dark servants before they seemingly withdrew. In reality, the servants had cloaked their appearance on the world. They had inflicted heavy damage on the Sorcerer's World before being driven off. Back on Earth, the Legionnaires discovered the true nature of their foes. Legion of Super-Heroes Vol. 2 #292
The Oan Servant of Darknesss was destroyed with yellow radiation wavelengths by Wildfire. The Legion would face the servants in final battle on Apokolips, which had been moved by Darkseid to occupy Daxam's position in the universe. The servants were to occupy the Legion while Darkseid reshaped Daxam to his designs. Legion of Super-Heroes Vol. 2 #293- #294

GLCWP NOTE
As part of the Great Darkness Saga, the Servants of Darkness were introduced before the identity of their master, Darkseid, was revealed.
Whether Darkseid was in suspended animation or had lived through the one thousand years between "now" and the "future" is uncertain.
The Oan Guardian clone was assumed to have been made from the DNA of Appa Ali Apsa aka the Old Timer. In the years (and stories) since, the DNA may have come from any of the (now deceased) Guardians.
For the post-Zero Hour version, see Servant of Darkness: Green Lantern.
