HISTORY

The Third Army was created by the Guardians of the Universe to correct their self-described failures. The Guardians planned to take away free will to bring order to a chaotic universe.

The first soldier was drawn upon the flesh of the Guardians themselves, using the power of the First Lantern. The creature bubbled and churned, finally forming into a pale humanoid shape. One of its first acts was to attack an unsuspecting cemetery guard. The soldier of the Third Army transformed the human, rewriting his organic material, taking away his mouth and discarding his heart until his mind and very identity was erased. The only trace of his humanity was vacant eyes as his mind was only connected to the Guardians themselves.

The first soldier was sent out into the universe to assimilate more into the Third Army while the former human would do the same on Earth. -Green Lantern Annual Vol. 5 #1
