HISTORY
Torquemada was a sorcerer, recruited for the Green Lantern Corps by Brik and Percival. He was inducted with fellow candidates Breeon, Reemuz, and Umitu. Hal Jordan knew Torquemada's story from the Book of Oa and was surprised to see the future foretold in the Book unfold in front of him.
After his training was complete, Torquemada found himself the target of practitioners of yellow magic. His fortress was intruded upon by Prentice, a mage of the Yellow Circle who wished to take the power ring and battery of the Green Lantern. The Yellow sorcerer used Giselle, a young woman under Torquemada's care, as a pawn.
Not wishing any harm to come to Giselle, Torquemada was to surrender his ring, but Giselle tricked Prentice. She baited the Yellow Sorcerer into kissing her. Unknown to Prentice, Giselle had been put under a curse, anyone she kissed would turn to gold. Torquemada had been trying to free Giselle from the curse for some time. Prentice was now another statue in a golden gallery. - Green Lantern Corps Quarterly #4
Torquemada later gazed into his crystal to learn the history of the mystical Starheart, the damnation of Yalan Gur, and the origin of Alan Scott, the Golden Age Green Lantern.
He sought out Scott for assistance, to harness the magic which was causing chaos throughout the universe. He told Scott the tales of Ash, a vampire hunting Green Lantern, Barin, a tragic victim of his own fevered nightmares, and the genocide on three worlds caused by Ayria, a power mad Green Lantern.
The two Green Lanterns faced the Starheart, which was becoming more unstable by the minute. M'la, the sentinel who had stood on the threshold of the wild magic had been tortured and killed by the malevolent personification of the Starheart.
It was his magic that was trickling throughout the universe, giving rise to the horrors they were witnessing. Part of the Starheart's power had brought back Alan Scott's youth and power. This magic would now be used to attack Scott's family. The wild magic was felt by such powerful entities as Dr. Fate, the Spectre, and Darkseid.
Alan Scott battled the Starheart as Torquemada tried to contain it. They were too late, the Starheart had ruptured. The magic was released throughout the universe.
Torquemada managed to save Alan Scott's family by capturing a portion of the magic, sealing it in a mystic globe. - Green Lantern Corps Quarterly #7
Alan Scott returned to Earth after the events of Zero Hour. He had given up his power ring and title as Green Lantern to Kyle Rayner.
Scott mourned the death of his Justice Society comrades. He was proud of all they had been through the years. Unknown to Scott their were mystic forces at work. He was attacked by the "ghosts" of the Golden Age Atom, Doctor Midnight and Hourman, secretly conjured up by Torquemada. His power reignited to fight off the spectres, the same energy he used to generate with his power ring. Alan could not back away from his destiny, so he adopted the name Sentinel. The reason as to why Torquemada provoked the restoration of Scott's powers is still unknown, though it may have been to combat the demon Neron. - Showcase '95 #1
Torquemada's ties to the Green Lantern Corps still remained strong. He joined other former Green Lanterns Ash, Brik, and Salakk at a memorial service for Hal Jordan on the former site of Coast City. Jordan seemed to have had a profound effect on Torquemada. - Green Lantern Vol. 3 #81
Following Hal Jordan's release from the control of Parallax, the Corps was reborn. Torquemada was one of many veteran Green Lanterns to assist in training new recruits as well as defend Oa from a Spider Guild invasion. - Green Lantern Corps: Recharge #1, #5
Torquemada was now partnered with Garmin Vid. The two Lanterns were attacked by Kyle Rayner, only to later learn it was Nero. Ion #1
Torquemada and Lanterns old and new took part in the massive battle against Superboy-Prime. They were able to slow the rampaging Kryptonian long enough for two Supermans to defeat their younger variant. - Infinite Crisis #7

GLCWP NOTE
Torquemada, a Green Lantern and magic wielder, was an interesting idea. In light of his connection to Alan Scott, it would be a shame if he wasn't seen again.
Torquemada was named after Tomas de Torquemada, 1420-1498, the Spanish grand inquistor.
