No problem with trespassing, though it is funny I was thinking of asking Tenz to set up an on-wiki message board for us. The non-wiki one irritates me with the spamming and I can't remember my password anyway.  :)

A good idea. Not sure how to do that though but will have to look into it. Could we set up a page for all these suggestions and needed tasks. I've had a lot on my plate at work recently and must admit I tend to forget all the stuff that needs to be done. Tenz, try setting up project pages with descriptive names, like "Special:Templates" or "Special:Errors to fix", attach a category like "DCU Wiki projects" and link it from the start page. I am probably not saying this well. What I have in mind is a rough timeline from, let's say, the 32nd century to the 853rd century regarding events mentioned/told in the One Million books. Like this, for example:

251st century

The Krypto lineage is resurrected from the preserved remains of some long-ago Krypto preserved by the Superman Dynasty (DC One Million 80-Page Giant #1,000,000/2).

85,267 A.D.

Superman of the 853rd century and Batman of the 853rd century join forces for the first time as System's Finest (DC One Million 80-Page Giant #1,000,000/1).

Legion indexes

This is just my opinion, but I don't think that adding the Legion members' real names in every single one of the issue indexes is at all necessary. It isn't done for any of the other characters we index except for the Green Lanterns of Earth, which to me ought to be the sole exception. It isn't needed for the sake of the indexes' readers, as they can just check the links to learn the characters' names, and plus it just looks better. Doug86 (talk) 16:35, 16 June 2018 (UTC)

I wouldn't call it necessary either - but it is a bit more helpful to an index reader and that's been my goal with the Legion indexes. Considering all the complexities of the LSH, I would definitely prefer an index reader NOT have to click to another page for something that can be made readily available. The Legion has had six series as well as features in Action and Adventure, they've had at the bare minimum four different incarnations within those appearances, with one series relying solely on their real names... over the course of 60 years and wildly varying editorial edicts. While most of the different incarnations of the Legion carry the same code name / real names for the members, some characters don't - let's say Lightning Lad vs. Livewire or Phantom Girl vs. Apparition.

As I've been working on the Legion indexes for the past decade I admit to not being as consistent as I'd like. Now that I'm finally nearing completion I realize I've put in their real names for most but not all appearances, so I'm working to clean that up hence the text replacement and you'll see other information added or clarified.

In regard to it looking better without real names, we'll have to agree to disagree. When considering some of chronologies we list - example below from Superboy Vol. 1 #147 - the addition of a character's real name is a relatively minor disruption.

Sorry, for not having responded to this before now. Personally, I see pros and cons of both approaches. I personally think it looks fine and it does make it easier to quickly identify the character when multiple characters have been using the identity. I like the numbers system but for post-Rebirth appearances this is a bit of a nightmare as we don't quite know who and who isn't or will be in continuity in a few months. (This presents another big issue that we have to address sooner rather than later, but I need to take some time to explain my thoughts on this first)

The official Marvel indexes (the latest ones at least) always used the real name the first time a character appeared in the index or when the torch was passed from one character to another. Now, with indexes like ours every issue can be the entry-point so doing it that way would not make a lot of sense. On the other hand not showing the real name can have the pro that a character can be seen as the hero/villain he is posing as until this is actually revealed without it jumping at you as soon as you see the page, but only if you do a mouse-over or click the character link. For instance, when Martian Manhunter was posing as Bloodwynd for quite some time. If he had been listed as "Bloodwynd (J'onn J'onzz)" the secret would be given away right away. Then again, other indexes do not hide this so don't know if we should be concerned with it.

If we do include the real names, do we do this for all characters or only the ones where we've had more than one person using the identity?

Anyway, I think this is a subject that would be best decided by actually asking the users of the Guide and not simply decided among ourselves. Because, while we do this because we like doing it, I'd say our end goal is to make it as user friendly as possible so that people will make the Guide their go-to place when it comes to indexes.

I will try to figure out a good way to present this question, so that we at least can see what others think, so please let's not delete each others work at this point. I will try to get this done soon, but I am quite busy at the moment so it might not happen right away.
