OVERVIEW
When Shelly Gaynor learned that her grandfather was the Golden Age Whip she decided to assume the Whip identity and write about what it was like to be a superhero. When the Golden Age Vigilante formed a new Seven Soldier of Victory, Shelly joined the group but perished on their very first mission when the team was caught in trap by Neh-Buh-Loh.
HISTORY
While researching her book Body Thunder, Shelly Gaynor stumbled across the training methods used by Joe Morgan (aka Nat Mulligan) who trained several superheroes in the years leading up to the first age of mystery men. Using these methods on herself, she felt ready to make the jump to “super-hero”. During her studies, she discovered that her grandfather, Rod Gaynor, was for several years as the mystery man of the Southwestern US known as The Whip. Resurrecting the “brand name”, Shelly began to fight crime in New York.
Using her experiences as the basis for her column on metahuman activities and another book, she increased her adventuring and risk taking. Wanting to experience all aspects of metahuman crime-fighting, she answered an ad in a fan magazine and joined Greg Sanders as he formed a new Seven Soldiers to defeat a foe from the 19th Century. The Whip, along with several of her teammates, were killed by the invading Sheeda.
POWERS AND WEAPONS
The Whip was adept at using the whip, lasso and bolos. She was an above average hand-to-hand fighter, and knowledgeable about metahuman activities.
