HISTORY
Described by Wu Bong Phat, the White Lotus was "an ancient and noble secret society that has played a crucial role in Chinese history all the back to the time of the Mongols." The Society was believed crushed in 1804, after the failure of an uprising suppressed by the Emperor's armies but it rose again by the late 1800s.
The led by the Warlord Yan Hsi-Shen, the White Lotus sent Wu Bong Phat to America to bring a Westerner to China in their attempt to assassinate the Manchu Emperor. Famed bounty hunter Jonah Hex was kidnapped and taken to Peking, as was his estranged wife Mei Ling to ensure his cooperation.
The plans of the White Lotus were foiled by the Emperor and his forces, and Warlord Yan Hsi-Shen took his own life rather than being captured. Jonah Hex and Mei Ling escaped to the United States, while Wu Bong Phat survived, vowing to take revenge on Hex.
History shows Wu Bong Phat was unsuccessful, though the details of his later life are not available. It is not known if the White Lotus survived in any form. -Jonah Hex #59-#62
