Synopsis: - The Amazon emissaries awaken in Patriarch's World are shocked by many things. Menalippe is in confusion over her inability to connect with the gods. Philippus has an allergy attack.
- Diana hears Hermes call. She goes to the ruins of Hermes' temple in New Hampshire to meet him. There she finds a god reveling in his power but it is not her god. Mercury, of the Roman pantheon, has ambushed the weakened Hermes and turned him into a statue. Diana discovers the subterfuge when Mercury tries to force Diana to be his consort. With her magic lasso she frees Hermes from his stoney prison. In his pride, Hermes spurns her aid but in his weakened state he is easy prey for the Roman deity. Diana defies her god and drives the usurper away. Hermes orders her to leave him alone.
