OVERVIEW

In Greek mythology, the Naiads are are female sweetwater spirits.

HISTORY

According to ancient Greek lore, the Naiads are the female spirits of lakes and rivers, and belong to the bigger family of the Nymphs of Nature. They exist all over the world and seem to be closely connected to the Elementals. Naiads and other Nymphs rarely show themselves to humans, but one of them once fell in love with Black Orchid’s friend Nick, after which he befriended many of her fellow Nymphs.

The Water Elemental known as Naiad is not a real Naiad, but may have a close connection to them.

Their saltwater equivalents are known as Nereids and Oceanides. There are also river spirits called Potamids.
