OVERVIEW

The planet of Takron-Galtos is an interstellar prison, built to hold only the most dangerous villains in known space.

HISTORY

Located far from any major inhabited worlds, Takron-Galtos is said to be difficult to approach from space. Navigation is made difficult by the nearby Takronian Asteroid Fields. It is not known when the prison was established or who was involved in its development. Such powers as the Guardians of the Universe, the authorities of Rann, and the Justice League of America have all stored criminals here. One of Takron-Galtos' guards, G'hu, was so noted for his abilities in quelling a prison riot that he was selected as a member of the Green Lantern Corps.

In use for over a millennium, Takron-Galtos is better known in the 31st century era of the Legion of Super-Heroes. It had originally been designed to serve as the Science Police's main base and training academy with a small prison attached. Following a prisoner revolt, Science Police Lt. Kimball Zendak convinced the United Planets to convert the planet to become solely a prison facility. -Legion of Super-Heroes Vol. 2 #306

Despite technological enhancements over the centuries, it was during this time Takron-Galtos suffered its most devastating prison breaks. The first was during the so-called "Great Darkness Saga" in which the Servants of Darkness, acolytes of Darkseid attacked the planet, freeing many prisoners. A second break was orchestrated by Zymyr as a version of the Legion of Super-Villains led by Nemesis Kid was formed. Years later, Superboy-Prime single-handedly released the entire prison population in order to create his own Legion of Super-Villains.

For a time, Takron-Galtos was replaced by Labyrinth. Reportedly, Takron-Galtos had been destroyed in the so-called Crisis on Infinite Earths but either this information was incorrect or subsequent Crisis-level events altered reality, restoring Takron-Galtos to existence.
