HISTORY
The woman named Unity Kincaid was born in the 1910s. In 1916, Dream of the Endless was imprisoned by Roderick Burgess, and several Americans were subsequently affected by a inexplicable "sleeping disease". Unity were among them, and did not wake up before the Dreamlord was freed, more than 80 years later. During her long sleep, however, Unity had been raped by Desire of the Endless and given birth to a daughter. A daughter who was adopted and would eventually become the mother of Rose and Jed Walker (a.k.a. Jed Paulsen, sidekick of Sandman Garrett Sanford). Unity lived a few more years awake, before sacrificing her life in the place of her granddaughter Rose, who was a "dream vortex" and had to be killed by Dream. Unity offered her own life instead, and was killed by Dream.
