Hey, good work so far, I just wanted to let you know that the two apostrophes together italicize the words, but you would use three apostrophes for characters or locations that aren't supposed to have a link. The three apostrophes together makes words look like "this". --BatDog2814 (talk) 23:48, 24 November 2017 (UTC)
I think you should know that at this particular wiki we prefer to focus on series that take place in the main DC Universe, specifically pre-Crisis, post-Crisis and New 52, and that the Batman Adventures series is typically excluded from this. Doug86 (talk) 03:06, 25 November 2017 (UTC)
- The Adventures stuff used to go on a separate wiki, just as there was a split between the pre- and post-New 52 stuff, but we've started moving some of the stuff that was originally there to this wiki. As with a bunch of other stuff the best formatting of the combined wiki is still something we need to figure out, but as long as it stars DC Universe characters it is acceptable --Tenzel Kim (talk) 18:47, 25 November 2017 (UTC)
- An easy fix - and something already ongoing - just make the tag (DC Animated Universe) for that series. I'm already using it for the Batman Beyond volumes (not the New 52) and that ties into the Bruce Timm Justice League, Batman series. --DRMOUSE2814 (talk) 23:15, 25 November 2017 (UTC)
Another thing, is that you should only put links to characters if the story is in continuity. There are exceptions, like for alternate Earths, or timelines, like Flashpoint. Also, some exceptions are out of continuity crossovers, like Batman/Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, where, in that, we link to the New 52 profile of Batman, but we don't put the series in the character's chronology or reference the events in the character's history. So, for Batman Adventures, instead of the "Batman", "Batman" would be better, and it would be the same for all the characters in that series. --BatDog2814 (talk) 17:01, 25 November 2017 (UTC)
- I've written a bit with Cubi717 on facebook and told him that I will take a look at his submissions and use those (and whatever mistakes he might make) to help explain how we do things as he has found the tuturial to be a bit confusing. And granted, after we merged the wiki's there are some things that we still need to work out and stuff that probably could be explained better. By seeing what he does wrong it will be easier to see what to improve. Unfortunately, this week has left me with very little spare time, so I haven't even had time to mail any of you.
- Anyway, I will look at his submission as soon as possible so that the newest addition to our ranks feels welcome and wants to stay and help improve the Guide. I have few pointers as well but need to be on my pc as writing these things down on my iPad is not optimal. One point about the characters in Batman Adventures though. I think they should be linked but we just need to agree on what to call the "animated universe" in the naming. Maybe it is time we revisit the naming conventions. I'll get back to you all on that. --Tenzel Kim (talk) 18:47, 25 November 2017 (UTC)
Tutorials
Below are some of the things I noticed when looking over the issues you've submitted. I hope this helps.
I've divided my comments into sections. If any of what I write here is not clear or you need some clarification just make a note and I'll do my best to answer:
Comic Titles
I'll start out with this one as that is probably one of the more confusing ones. As a general rule when starting out on the Guide it was decided to leave out the definite article (The) of a title, so it would be "Joker" rather than "The Joker". This is done to make the title appear under J rather than under T in the Comic Book listings, which should make the titles easier to look for as you don't have to worry about whether or not it has a The or not.
However, when we started indexing the New 52 books (on a different wiki) we started using The in the beginning of the title, which has lead to some confusion when we merged the New 52 and the original DCU wikis. But we've yet to really agree what would be the best way to do it because there are pros and cons to both approaches and it is something we should try to find some common ground on.
Right now I'm looking at three different solutions:
1. We always omit the definitive article at the beginning of a Title. On some titles the missing The makes the name seem a bit off though.
2. We add the title in the index of the actual issue but not in the page name. The page name would still be for instance Joker rather than The Joker, but in on the index of Joker #1 you'd see The Joker #1 if The is part of the actual title. This could be done in a couple of different ways but would need my tampering in a few templates.
3. We add The to all the books that actually have a The in the beginning of the title, and I figure out a way to make it sort under J rather than T in the Joker case. This would also require me tampering with a few templates. My own problem with this would be that I don't think it would look all that pretty in listings as a list might end up looking like this:
- Action Comics
- The Adventures of Superman
- All-Star Comics
Anyway, until we decide on which way to proceed I think it best we stay with option 1 as most books are named that way and it messes up the ordering the least.
Covers
When adding cover files to the Guide they should be numbered 001-999 instead of 1-999 (So it would be Batman Adventures 001 rather than Batman Adventures 1.) The reason for this is that it makes it easier to sort them properly.
Also instead of writing what comic it is the cover for in the summary when uploading simply write {{Cover}}. By doing that the page will automatically state which comic it is the cover for and link to it. Creator credits can be added like in the following example:
{{Cover
| artist = Jim Lee
| colorist = Alex Sinclair
}}
