HISTORY
The Vault of Shadows, located in Sector 180 at the edge of the known universe, is the sister structure to the Chamber of Shadows, positioned on the universe's opposite rim. Created billions of years ago, the Vault served a different purpose than its counterpart: it was a sacred mausoleum to commemorate the first Green Lanterns.[1]
A row of seven uniform, upright, clear sarcophagi dominated the space, elevated on a stepped platform. The skeletal forms of the deceased are displayed in all but the sixth, which stands empty.[2]

Since the Vault's creation, its protector, Tyran'r, one of the two remaining Lanterns defended the Vault, the remains of the fallen and the power rings from would-be thieves. In time, Kaja Dox had joined the fallen in eternal rest.[3]
Following the failure of the Manhunters, the Guardians of the Universe, recognizing the potential of willpower, would retrieve the dormant power rings from the Vault.[4] From these remnants, they would forge the Green Lantern Corps proper, a new era dawning with Rori Dag as the first of countless Green Lanterns to come, spreading out across the cosmos.[5]
However, the Vault concealed more than just its honored dead. Descending through dark corridors within its depths lay an inner crypt, the resting place of a significant relic: the First Power Ring.

In modern times, the First Lantern, Volthoom, orchestrated a scheme. First, he possessed the Guardian Rami. Then, manipulating the unwitting Green Lanterns Jessica Cruz and Simon Baz, Volthoom was able immobilize Tyran'r and enter the inner crypt to seize the First Ring from its ancient holding within the Vault.[6]
