HISTORY

In a previous universe, the Red Lightsmiths of Fury were a part of the broader spectrum of Lightsmiths. Despite their name suggesting otherwise, they coexisted peacefully with the other Lightsmiths for eons. The Red Lightsmiths replaced their hearts with pure light, granting them immortality, and together they forged civilizations entirely out of light.

A prominent scientist, however, challenged their beliefs, suggesting their light might not be infinite and could come at a cost. The other Lightsmiths scorned him, cruelly dubbing him Relic because he advocated for a return to ancient ways before the light was harnessed. Undeterred, Relic embarked on a journey across the stars to find evidence to support his theories.

"The Dimming" began on the homeworld of the Blue Lightsmiths of Faith when their power converter went dark. This event presumably cascaded, leading to the War of the Dwindling Light, where the various Lightsmiths turned on each other in combat.

The conflict wasn't confined to the Lightsmiths alone; Light Pirates emerged, seeking to acquire the dwindling energy by any means necessary. Some Lightsmiths, including members of the Red Lightsmiths of Fury, were captured for experimentation and exploitation. Stripped of their staves, their existence seemed doomed until members of the Green Lantern Corps, wielders of green light from a different universe, unexpectedly intervened.[1]

Despite receiving aid from the Green Lanterns in regaining their freedom, the Lightsmiths chose to unite once more, this time to attack the Lanterns in unison. Their goal was to claim the living planet Mogo for themselves.[2]However, they were ultimately repelled by the Green Lanterns and Mogo himself.[3]

Tragically, every single Lightsmith was eventually extinguished, leading to the complete collapse of their universe. Relic, the scientist who foresaw their demise, remained the sole, somber survivor.[4]

POWERS

The Red Lightsmiths of Fury access their powers by use of a spear-tipped stave. It is not known if they possessed the ability to expel napalm-like light from their mouths as exhibited by the next existence's Red Lantern Corps.
